Ok so much like everyone else this week I was torn between 2-3 of the song options. Naturally I went with "Jump" Van Halen since it’s the one I’m most familiar with and have lots of strong opinions on. Man I’m so tired of every single pop culture movie using this damn song for their trailers. I swear I see it once a year at this point. I mean I get why, it’s an absolute banger of a song. It really makes you want to… jump? Ok yeah bad joke. But still though. It’s so overused. Anyway the actual song ain’t half bad. Keyboard playing is iconic, lyrics take the backseat as the instruments work their manic. The stars aligned to create a song that perfectly describes the 80’s. And for that I give it credit. Honestly I might’ve been too harsh at the beginning. Maybe it’s from listening to it 3 god damn times in a row that left me irritated. But I still think we need to explore other song options for movie trailers. I swear this one takes the lead by far, it’s either this song, some niche song, the movie’s theme, or just ambience. Ridiculous! Absolutely ridiculous!
I agree that it is very overused. Every time I hear it I think of some cheesy commercial or trailer. I like how you said lyrics are in the background. I thought the same when we had to critically listen to it, it was nothing but in your face synthesizer.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that this song is overused. This song I feel is iconic even though it is overused. Everyone seems to know the lyrics so it’s not a terrible song to play once, but this song isn’t a song to keep playing over and over.
