For listening blog 5 I decided to choose "Mambo No. 5" Perez Prado and oh my was that a good choice. This is the official anthem of Latin America. I don’t care what anyone says. It just is. The style, the recognizability. The way it utilizes each instrument. This is peak authentic Latin American music. It’s a remarkable song from another part of the planet I don’t listen to. Yet it sounds good. I’ve always had a strange affiliation with the Latin American stream. I always love listening to it. I even played a radio station in my truck for a time. However I never seem to actively seek it out. It always stumbles into my lap. This song makes me want to change that. Maybe it’s the iconic song. Maybe it’s the fun style and instruments. But man, I really need to broaden my horizons of music. The genre always makes me want to get up and groove. Listening to this genre is always fun. I never hear the urge to change the radio station when I heard it in my truck. It’s the perfect background music for daily life. Which is what I love about music. I’m not one to drop everything for a song. I like to listen to music while doing an activity. And this song is perfect for that
I love that you played latin music in your truck! I really like this song as well. I was able to visit Costa Rica this past year and this kind of music was playing all the time. It really opened my eyes to all of the different kinds of music that I don’t know much about and the culture that goes along with it. I like how you said at the end that this is perfect for background music and I definitely agree.
ReplyDeleteI like how you mentioned you want to broaden your horizons of music, because same. If there's one thing I like about this class is that it makes us reach out and listen to songs I wouldn't typically. I also like how you mentioned the radio station in your truck. I feel like there is no better time for a good song then when you're in your own car, listening to your own music.
ReplyDeleteI loved your post and I totally agree with you. This song is totally what I think of when I think of the Latin American stream. It's so fun to listen to, and can always put you in a good mood. I honestly never listen to music like this, especially in my car, but your post is making me want to lol. I also agree with you, I too want to broaden my music taste, and maybe I'll start with music like this.
ReplyDeleteMambo No. 5 is such an interesting song to listen to! Also, I love the theme of your blog, it's so cool, I haven't many people with a blog that looks like this. I agree with what you said about this song being background music. This is a really cool style of song, and I need to broaden my horizons of music as well! haha
ReplyDeleteMambo No 5 is actually one of my grandmas favorites, so we used to listen to it a lot. I agree with you saying that it was a good choice. There a lot of power in music. The fact that it made me think of my grandma and made you think of just background music and how it made you want to broaden your horizons just proves that point.
